It is with sadness we announce the passing of Austin “The Golfer” Phillips on Thursday April 20, 2023 at age 94. Austin immigrated from Preston, England to London, Ontario in 1963 at 34 years of age. In England, he is survived by his older sister Dorothy Wilkinson and her two sons David and Peter (Anne) and family. Predeceased by his brother Robert Phillips (2020). In Canada, Austin is survived by the step family members (wife Flora (Mills) Phillips 1999), and step family with (wife Shirley (Nicholls) Phillips). Austin “the golfer”, “bus driver”, and “captain”, shared many a story about his golf games in England and Canada, often reminding us that he initiated the inaugural LTC annual golf tournament in 1969. After building a boat in the back yard, he moored it in Port Stanley where he often took friends and family out for a cruise on Lake Erie. He would reminisce with us accounts of his earlier work in sewing machine sales in England and Mutual Fund sales throughout SW Ontario. The last few years Austin would frequent his favourite eateries including Scores Bar and Grill, Tim Horton’s, Archie’s and Richie’s Restaurant. The servers and owners would greet him by name which always produced a huge smile from him. We as caregivers, and on behalf of Austin, would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and volunteers of St. Joseph’s Hospice, London, for their dedication and compassionate care during his final days. We have been blessed with your kindness. A visitation will take place on Thursday April 27, 2023 at Needham Funeral Home (520 Dundas St., London) from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. followed by a service at Noon. Interment to follow at Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Joseph’s Hospice or Ronald McDonald house London
