Carol "Bud" Martin was born on December 9, 1923 in Fertile, Missouri and passed away after an extended hospital stay due to pneumonia on September 10, 2010. He grew up on a farm with 9 brothers and sisters. Bud's passion was baseball and he played on the Cardinals farm team in Missouri. Bud was asked to move up in the organization but he chose to serve his country and enlisted in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Bud was in the 339th fighter group stationed in England. He came back to the US on the Queen Mary. Bud moved with his late wife, Ann; and daughter, Sharon, to Long Beach where he lived on Studebaker Rd for 57 years. Bud went into business with two of his brothers, John and Bill, building walk-in refrigeration units. Family came first for him. Bud loved having his daughter and family live two houses away from him and being actively involved with his grandchildren. Being a twin himself, Bud loved that his granddaughter, Dana, had two sets of twin boys, Connor, Tyler, Spencer and Trevor Steer. He enjoyed having them live close by so he could watch them play all four sports, but especially baseball, the sport he loved. He was further blessed when his grandson, Dan, had two girls, Sienna and Sydney Shuler. Survived by his daughter, Sharon (Martin) Shuler; son-in-law, Gordon Shuler; grandchildren, Dana (Chris) Steer and Dan (Lori) Shuler; six great-grandchildren; and brothers, Bill, Sam, and Walt Martin. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Ann (Tumminello) Martin; parents, Charles and Rosa (Yates) Martin; three sisters, Cleta Carnegie, Charlene Graham and his twin, Carolyn Beno; three brothers, John, Robert and Art Martin. Graveside service at Riverside National Cemetery on September 21 at 1:30 followed by a celebration of his life at the home of his granddaughter 4:00-7:00.
