

Clifford Vance Roberts passed away peacefully at his residence in Anaheim with his family by his side on October 18, 2011. He was born to Charles and Elfie Roberts in Apache, Oklahoma on March 8, 1925, one of eight children. Cliff joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943, serving in the Pacific. From 1947 - 1984 he was employed by Phelps Dodge Corporation, working in the open pit copper mine in Morenci, Arizona. In 1948, he married Ruth Vaughn of Vernon, Texas and resided in Morenci. After his retirement, they settled in Safford, Arizona. Cliff and Ruth came to California in October 2009 to be closer to their family. Cliff was an avid bowler, hunter and fisherman. He was a volunteer Morenci fireman, was active in the Elks and American Legion in Arizona for many years and faithfully donated blood to the American Red Cross throughout most of his adult life. Cliff enjoyed playing cards and board games with family and friends, especially with his grandchildren. Cliff is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ruth; daughter, Teresa Montoya; son-in-law, Sam Montoya; grandchildren, Gregory Montoya (Therese), Matthew Montoya. Laura Montoya (Genji Nakano), Andrew Montoya; great-granddaughters, Gabriella, Genevieve and Julia; sister, Arlene Huffmyer; brothers, C.J. Roberts, Wayne Roberts and many family members and friends. Visitation and rosary will be held on Saturday, October 22 at Luyben Family Dilday-Mottell Mortuary in Long Beach from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at St. Pancratius Catholic Church in Lakewood on Monday, October 24 at 10:30 a.m., followed by interment at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association .
