Consuelo Gomez Salcido

Consuelo (Connie) Gomez Salcido passed away peacefully on February 5, 2024, in San Pedro, California. She was born in San Pedro on April 11, 1924, to Andrea and Augustin Gomez. She is predeceased by her husband, Efren (Frank); daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Sam Kirkwood and daughter, Connie Joy Delgado; parents, Andrea and Augustin Gomez; brothers Joseph, Ray, Leonard and Augustine Gomez; sisters Josephine Lopez, Aurora Puertas and Angie Courtemarche. She was the youngest in her family and loved telling stories of how her siblings looked after her.

She graduated from San Pedro High School in 1942. Earlier that same year she eloped to Arizona to marry Efren (Frank) Salcido. They moved to Torrance, CA in 1952 where she was active with her children in PTA, ice hockey and Job’s daughters. They renewed their wedding vows at Holy Trinity Church in 1984. They retired from California to Las Vegas in 1989, and after Frank’s passing in 1999, Connie lived alone until 2019. She had a full life with her Sun City friends, bowling, playing bingo, walking in the pool daily and attending regular birthday luncheons. She loved to read, do word puzzles, and play board games. She also enjoyed regular visits to the beauty shop and nail salon! She drove to Church every Sunday until she was 90 years old, then watched Mass on TV. In 2019 she moved back to San Pedro.

She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Hamel of San Pedro, son Frank Salcido (Jen) of Las Vegas and grandchildren, Rick (Kari) Kirkwood, Michael (Kathryn) Hamel, Kim (Jeff) Valliere, Meredith Hamel, and Brian (Renee) Salcido, as well as great and great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews in the Gomez and Salcido families.

Funeral Mass at Holy Trinity Church Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 10 am. Memorial Burial at Sea February 25, 2024.
