

Dennis Wayne Mitchell passed away on November 2, 2017, at the age of 87. He was born in Abilene, TX, where he became a Christian at age 12. The family moved to New Jersey in 1945. Dennis graduated from Clifton High School, NJ, in 1947. He then attended Rutgers University, where he also found time to write sports articles. Dennis served in the Army during the Korean War as a medical technician in Kyoto, Japan. During his career as a chemical lab technician, he worked at Bell Lab, Murray Hill, NJ, American Cyanamid, Bound Brook, NJ, and Hoechst-Celanese, Branchburg, NJ, where he retired in 1985. He was a resident of Bridgewater, NJ, Vero Beach, FL, and then Seal Beach, CA, where he lived in the Leisure World community. He is predeceased by his father, Emzy Mitchell, his mother, Maude (Blanks) Mitchell Anastasio, his step-father, Joseph Anastasio, his daughter, Deborah (Mitchell) Wedemeyer, and his brother, Alvin Mitchell. Dennis’ brother Ray Mitchell of Whiting, NJ, passed away four days after Dennis. Dennis is survived by his wife Angelita, his son Wayne and daughter-in-law Kathy. He was friendly to all, ready with a smile and a warm handshake, generous, and had a positive attitude even through tough times. He loved church, football, a vegetable garden, and classical music. He will be greatly missed. Interment to include Military Honors at the Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside CA, on December 4, Monday, 10:45 AM.
