Ernesto (Erning) Castro Butiu, aged 85, of Long Beach, CA passed away at home on Saturday, October 12, 2024 under the loving care of his wife Filipina Butiu.
Ernesto was born on June 20th, 1939 to Pedro and Filimina Butiu in Santa Ana, Philippines. He survived all 4 of his siblings: Jesus, Carmen, Emilita, and Primitivo. Ernesto met Filipina Matias in 1968, while she was working as a nurse at the emergency hospital in Arayat, Pampanga. They married on June, 1970.
Ernesto, with his daughter Arlene and son Arnold under his arm, emigrated to Chicago, Illinois to reunite with his wife Filipina (Penny), who had already been there working as a nurse. Thus began his new love of life living the American Dream in the United States. His first job was as a taxicab mechanic. He showed up at the interview in a suit, was hired and started work that same day. Ernest Butiu Jr. was born in 1979, who was brought home to the Butiu family's first house on Jarlath in Rogers Park. Ernesto’s life is marked by his feeling blessed in having a loving family to share his life with.
Ernesto is survived by his wife Filipina, and their children: Arlene Yanover (David) of South Pasadena, Arnold Butiu (Elisa Rotermund) of Monument, CO and Ernest Jr. (Kathleen Thomas) of Long Beach, and all their grandchildren, Jaden, Olivia, Andrew, Ronin, and Rose.
