Flor de Maria Chavarria De Madera, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025, in Long Beach, California, after a courageous seven-year battle with cancer. She was 54 years old.
Born on November 14, 1969, in Matagalpa, Nicaragua, Flor immigrated to the United States at the age of 15 and attended Wilson High School in Long Beach. With determination and heart, she built a life rooted in family, hard work, and community.
Flor was a gifted and passionate hairdresser who owned and operated Broadway Hair Studio in Long Beach for more than 30 years. She was admired not only for her artistry but also for the kindness, laughter, and warmth she shared with generations of loyal clients who became lifelong friends. In 2012, she was honored by the Regional Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as one of the Mujeres del Año for her accomplishments as a Latina businesswoman and her contributions to the community.
Flor was a true Chingona—a warrior who embodied strength, positivity, and love. She found joy in traveling, dancing, music, cooking, and gathering with friends. Her generosity, vibrant energy, and passion for life touched everyone she met.
She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie De Anda; her sisters, María de Jesús, María Azucena, and Angela Gabriela; her brothers, Enrique and Brijido; and many extended family members and friends who will carry her memory forward.
