

1925 - 2010
Jerry Laurin, 84, of Long Beach, CA, died peacefully on March 17, 2010. He was born on September 7, 1925, in a small farming community in Argyle, MN. After graduating from high school in 1943, his family came to Long Beach to join other relatives. He immediately joined the Navy and served in the Pacific Theater until the end of the war. He attended Long Beach City College and Loyola University and became a law graduate. He worked for Allstate Insurance for 40 years. Jerry loved the game of golf and was very competitive and could he ever chip and putt! He was a lifelong member of the Long Beach Elks #888 and served as golf chairman for several years. He was also the golf chairman for the Lakewood Seniors when they were first organized. Jerry played golf in several Senior Olympics around the U.S. He also enjoyed his second home in Palm Desert for 37 years where he played golf in the winter months. Each Christmas for the past 20 years, Jerry gave his four children and their spouses a weekend of golf at a So. Cal resort, and officially named it "The Laurin Open" . Jerry is survived by his wife of 59 years, Anita; four children, Stephen, Laurin, Tracy Shabro, Julianne Renny and Kristen Holst; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Thursday, 4-7 p.m. at Luyben Family Dilday-Mottell Mortuary. The following day, there will be a Mass at Our Lady of Refuge Church at 12:00 noon with a reception to follow.
