

Helen Luchaco, 87, of Long Beach, California, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, May 2, at her home. Born in Sayre, PA on July 18, 1924, Helen was the twelfth of 14 children born to the late Paul Geffert and Kathryn Wasylewicz Geffert. She was proud to be a first generation Polish American. Helen married Joe, the love of her life, on January 14, 1950, after a whirlwind courtship. Joe's Navy career took them to Long Beach where they settled and raised their family. Helen loved being a housewife and entertaining in her home. She was compassionate, caring and opinionated and everyone loved being around her. After the passing of her beloved Joe in 2003, Helen continued to dote on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed the activities of the St. Joseph Seniors, especially playing cards, which she learned from her father. Helen is survived by her children, Anne (Rick) Macek of Malvern, PA, Joseph J. (Babette) of Valley Center, CA; grandchildren, Erin (Jason) Kolb of Newport Beach, CA, Matthew (Rachel) of Meeker, CO; great-grandsons, Thad, Joshua, Peter, Cordell; and her first great-granddaughter due in September; sister, Lena (Robert) Davenport of Stroudsburg, PA; brother, Joe (Mary) of Sayre, PA; sister-in-law. Grace Geffert; special nieces, Nancy (Doug) Houck of Los Alamitos, CA and Karen (John) Motsay of Cleveland, OH; dear friends, Jon and Jan Breitbarth and Kathie Spradlin; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. In addition to her husband, Helen was preceded in death by sisters, baby Anna, Mary, Anne, Kathryn and Pauline; brothers, John, Frank, Peter, Carl, Michael and Tony. Funeral Mass Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 10:30 a.m., St. Joseph Catholic Church, Long Beach, CA. Interment at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA.
