John Joseph Day

John Joseph Day, Jr., aged 78, of Long Beach, CA, passed away September 26, 2012 of complications following a stroke. John was born April 30, 1934 in New York City (The Bronx), NY, where he attended P.S. 48. He graduated from St. Thomas H.S. in Ann Arbor, MI before graduating from Eastern Michigan University. John was a U.S. Army veteran serving in 1952-53, allowing him to attend and graduate from college on the G.I. Bill. While living in Ann Arbor, MI he first met his future wife, Betty Whitchurch, eventually meeting her again in Long Beach, CA where they married and had three children, Michael, Katie and Kevin. John taught for 32 years in the Torrance Unified School District where he taught 5th through 8th grade students in English, history and P.E. John was preceded in passing by his parents, John Sr. and Mary Day and brother, Gerald. He is survived by his wife, Betty; sister, Ann; sons, Michael and Kevin; daughter, Katie; daughter-in-law, Leslie Day; and grandchildren, Danica, Kylee and Henry.
