

John "Ike" M. Jenkins, of Long Beach, California died at his home on September 22, 2012. He was born October 4, 1927, Cherokee, Iowa. Ike had six sisters and six brothers of which he was the eldest of the brothers. He served in the Army as a clerk typist in Fort Sam, Houston, Texas. Ike left the military and became a self-employed business owner. He married Mercedes "Dee" Day in 1971, and they resided in Long Beach, California.
Ike is survived by three siblings, Katherine Shureen of Carlsbad, CA, Philip Jenkins of Cypress, CA, and Clarence Joseph Jenkins of Northern CA; two step-daughters Claudia Day Hayes and Cathy Day-Lamb of Long Beach, CA, 13 grand-children and 17 great-grandchildren.
Ike was preceded in death by his wife Dee; father Clarence "Charlie", mother Mae, sisters Margaret, Pauline, Joann, Jane, Helen; brothers, Ronald, Robert "Bob", Eugene "Nick", and stepson Edward Day.
Mass services will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 9am at St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Long Beach; followed by a graveside eulogy with military honors at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach, CA. Ike will be laid to rest next to his wife, Dee, and stepson, Edward. A reception will follow at Lakewood Country Club for family and friends to celebrate his life.
