Marie A. Skaggs

Marie Alice Skaggs passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 13, 2010. She is in heaven with the Lord Jesus and other family members. She was born on August 28, 1920 in Tabor, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Leona Settell. She was one of nine brothers and sisters. In 1930 the family moved to Wyoming. Marie graduated from Gurnsey Wyoming High school. She met Cliff Byer and they were married in 1940. They had three children. Cliff passed away in 1952 from cancer. She met Walter "Johnny" Skaggs in Casper, Wyoming and they married in 1958. They moved to California in 1965. They were married 47 years before he passed away in 2005. Marie sold Avon for 40 years and was in the Presidents Club for outstanding sales. She is survived by her three children, Joy Kenan, Gordon Byer, and Judy Thomson and two step-children, Judy Moranto and Mary Frank Ralls. She has seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by four brothers and one sister. Marie was a loving and caring person who was the matriarch of the family and always made sure the family stayed together. In July 2010 she attended the Settell Reunion in Cody, Wyoming with 85 family members. The family recently celebrated her 90th birthday with a luau party and Hawaiian dancers. Marie is so loved by her family and friends and will be missed by all.
