Marilyn Naomi Mogan (Wood) was born Sept. 14, 1928 to Margaret and Lester Fehr. Raised Pennsylvania Dutch, Marilyn developed a strong sense of family – not to mention a love of tasty eats. This old fashioned lifestyle was ingrained in her heart, but she also loved the more luxurious side of life.
She graduated from Mansfield Teachers College before moving to California to begin her career. Her first teaching job began a thirty-year journey and an incredible career in teaching. It was at this job she met her charismatic husband, Frank Mogan. The couple spent many fond years together raising and doting upon their four children: John, Tom, Peggy and Jimmy.
Marilyn enjoyed her 12 grandchildren, and she felt blessed to have had the pleasure of being given four great-grandchildren as well.
Engaged in many activities throughout her life, Marilyn was an avid Bridge player. She was active in two Bridge clubs for many years, but that wasn’t the only game she played; she was known to enjoy a hand of Kings in the Corner every now and again too. She also hosted monthly Bingo parties in her home. A card shark, with a good poker face, Marilyn loved the social aspect of cards as much as she loved the game. She had a remarkable group of lifelong friends.
Her quirky personality warranted her another great group of friends at the Weingart Senior Center where she met weekly with her exercise group. She was warmly greeted into a sincerely lovely group of kind and comical women. Marilyn could make a friend of nearly anyone – attaching herself to even her drivers who took part in picnic lunches regularly.
Marilyn was fortunate to have so much love surrounding her constantly; however that simply speaks to the incredible woman Marilyn was. She found herself amongst a handful of amazing caregivers (Ghina, Elena, and Martha) who bestowed their services in inconceivable levels. Marilyn’s caregivers allowed her to live a seemingly independent life that was full of joys and excitement to which she couldn’t have been happier.
A service will be held Sat. July 30, 3:00 pm at Laekwood Village Community Church to celebrate the incredible life Marilyn lived. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice who helped Marilyn and her surviving family during times of great difficulty.
