In 1946, Millie married Robert Darling in New Haven, CT. and in February 1947, Bobbie June was born. About 9 months later they moved to California where Millie's Mother, Sister and Brother lived. In November of 1949, a son, Ronald Lee, was born. In 1952, Millie married James Marr, and in November of 1955, a daughter, Debora Rachel, was born.
In 1963, Millie became a single mother and to support her 3 children, now ages 16, 14, and 8, she took a job as a salesgirl in a fashionable dress shop, M.COLE, in Inglewood, CA. In time, she rose to the position of Manager. This was the beginning of her 30 year career in Retail Sales. In 1993 at the age of 64, she retired from Nordstroms after having been there 6 years.
In the early 80's Millie met the love of her life, Robert Pilon. They were inseparable and enjoyed over 20 years together. Millie and Bob loved going to the beach from early morning to late afternoon during the summers. They always had the best tans in the family. They also enjoyed going to swapmeets and garage sales nearly every weekend. They were always bringing home little treasures for each other or one of her kids. After retiring, Millie found a new hobby. She would buy old dolls of varying sizes and types at the garage sales or at swapmeets. She would take them home and clean them up, make (she was always an excellent seamstress) or buy new clothes for them, glue new wigs on them and then, if she could bring herself to part with them, Millie would sell them in her friend, Paula's antique mall booth or at one of her daughter's garage sales. It would not be uncommon to go to Millie's home and see 20 or 30 dolls lined up along the walls, with all these little eyes staring at you. There was even an article, with a picture, written about her and her dolls in a local newspaper.
In 2002, Millie and Bob bought a home together in Whittier, CA. Unfortunately, she had been having severe knee pain and had already starting experiencing some problems with her memory. In early 2005, after having her right knee replaced, it became evident she would be requiring more care than Bob would be able to handle any longer. In February 2005 at the age of 75, she would move to MPS Retirement Home in Lakewood, CA. where she would spend her remaining years. This was a very homey and comfortable environment, and Millie always appeared happy there, and she was always very well cared for.
From 2005 until he passed away in August of 2007, Bob would alternate visiting Millie every other day with her daughter, Bobbie. He would stay for hours sometimes, just wanting to be with her. When their home in Whittier sold, Bob could have moved anywhere, but he chose to stay in the Long Beach area so he could be close to his "Sweetie Pie", Millie.
Millie was always known for her outgoing personality, caring and generous nature. She never met a wayward child, that she didn't take under her wing and sort of adopt. One of the things that anyone who met Millie remarked about, was her beautiful smile. This continued even up until her last days.
Millie loved her family so much, they were everything to her. She leaves them with heavy hearts, but a wealth of wonderful memories.
Millie is survived by her daughter, Bobbie and husband Ed; son, Ron and wife, Linda; daughter Debbie and Uncle George; sister, Gwenn and husband, Norman; grandchildren, Steven and wife Michele, Jessica, Shanna, Christina, Rachel, and Ted; and great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Corey, Sara, and Ryan; her two "adopted" sons, Craig and Curtis Pilon, and her "adopted" daughter, Hollie Diann Vest.
