Ola accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Christ Second Baptist Church. She was very active in church, attending Sunday School, BTU and prayer meetings. She loved attending church. She was a very happy child with an infectious laugh and smile. Ola had cerebral palsy, was deaf and could not speak normally; however, she was able to communicate through vocal sounds and sign language. If you spent time around her you could understand many things she said. She was a very intelligent and had an excellent memory.
Ola Faye was the center of the Shepard family. Everyone loved and spoiled her. She was our "baby" although Joysteen was a lot younger. Ola lead an active life. She could read, write, walk, ride a bike, type, do chores, needlepoint, write lists of clothes she wanted or needed, and save her money. She cared for her personal needs and was quite independent, mother would have nothing less.
The nieces and nephews fondly remember Ola babysitting them. She loved them dearly and they loved her. She was very strong and would give them hard hugs. She loved celebrating their birthdays, hiding Easter eggs in the backyard and taking pictures after church.
She joined St. John MBC as a young adult and attended church regularly until her health failed her.
Ola Faye was preceded in death by her loving parents and her devoted brother, Huey. In the stillness of September 20, 2012, God dispatched His Angel and saw a Servant who had fought a good fight and kept the faith. He called her from labor to reward. Ola leaves to cherish her memory, one brother, Shirley (Reesa) Shepard, two sisters, Mildred (Payton Jr.) Lonon and Joysteen Toliver, one sister-in-law, F. Elaine Shepard, three aunts, Jessie Rambo, (San Francisco, CA) Siporah Green, (Houston, TX) and Lillie B. Williams, (Vivian,LA) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
