Sabrina Megan Smyer, our beloved Mother, Grandmother “Mema”, Daughter, Sister, Aunt and Friend, was born on the most celebrated day in the world – New Year’s Day 1955. She was born in Chicago Illinois and relocated with her family to sunny southern California by the age of four. Her father, Henry Daughtrey, and mother, Joyce Daughtrey, raised Sabrina in a home with love, laughter and children. Sabrina grew up with eleven siblings. Older siblings Dinah, Jerome, Cornelius and Viola; and younger siblings Joann, Joseph, Gwen, Anthony, Charlesa, Machon and Jocelyn. From the beginning, Sabrina had an innate nurturing spirit and was like a second mother to her siblings for many years.
Sabrina attended Dominguez High School where she was drill team captain and delighted herself with friendly competitions on who could earn the highest GPA. By the young age of 16, Sabrina was accepted into the University of Southern California to pursue her career in nursing.
At age 18, Sabrina’s heart was captured by Roy Herbert Smyer III. The two of them were inseparable and they married in 1979. As their love blossomed so did their family. Their union produced 3 children: Derek Paul, Danielle Christine and Aaron Dwayne & 2 grandchildren: Sydney Cheyenne and Simone Aaliyah both fathered by her eldest son Derek Paul.
After obtaining her Master’s Degree in nursing, Sabrina became a registered nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital. She then worked as a private nurse doing home care which eventually led to Sabrina launching her own business named Smyer Medical.
Amidst running her own company, this “Super Mom” was the proud matriarch of her family. She was heavily involved in her children’s sports, performances, music recitals, and club events. Sabrina was also a phenomenal cook that would bring the whole family to the table every night for one of her delicious home cooked meals. She shared her love for music, movies and sports most closely with her husband. Throughout all the laughter and trials that life brought her way, Sabrina’s love was truly unconditional.
Our Heavenly Father called Sabrina home on January 18, 2015 to reunite with her Soulmate Roy, Sister Jocelyn and many adored relatives and friends. She is survived by her children: Derek Paul, Danielle Christine and Aaron Dwayne; Grandchildren: Sydney Cheyenne and Simone Aaliyah; Parents: Henry and Joyce Daughtrey; Siblings: Dinah, Joann, Joseph, Gwen, Anthony, Charlesa, Machon, Jerome, Cornelius, and Viola; Numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nephews, Nieces, Cousins and friends. Sabrina will forever be in our hearts.
