

GARIBAY, Sylvia Sylvia Gomez Garibay, longtime resident of Wilmington, CA passed away surrounded by her family on October 4, 2015. She was predeceased by her mother, Margaret Gomez & sisters: Dora & Lily. Sylvia was born in Morenci, AZ on November 19, 1928 & moved to Wilmington at age 5. She graduated from Phineas Banning High School in 1946 & continued her education at the Cal State Long Beach where she received her BA in Spanish. She worked at Kaiser in Home Health for over 25 years. Sylvia was very dedicated to her community, where she spent her free time volunteering at the Wilmington Library & Phineas Banning HS Library. Sylvia was also a member of the Wilmington Home Owners Association & was active with St. Peter & St. Paul Church. She was an avid reader, Laker fan, & a long time supporter of the Banning Pilots. Her family was always first & foremost in her heart, & we all hold happy memories of our time together. Sylvia was a independent, smart, vibrant & engaging woman. She is survived by her sons, Gary (Laurie) & Rocky (Pam), Sylvia, leaves her legacy on this earth through her 6 grandchildren & 4 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 11 a.m. at All Souls Mortuary Chapel, 4400 Cherry Ave., Long Beach, CA 90807, with interment to follow at All Souls Cemetery.
