

Bevan E. Steadman, MD was called home on September 15, 2017, after a long and courageous fight. Born in Sherman, TX on January 15, 1943 to Col Beverly E. Steadman USAF and Betty Steadman née Ellis. He was respected and admired as a gentleman with a calm demeanor, and a critical mind. June of 1969, he married Sharon Elois Bradley, who predeceased him in 2015. Dr. Steadman graduated with a medical degree in 1971, from UTMB Galveston, He completed a General Psychiatry Residency, at the Mental Health Institute in Cherokee, Iowa in 1974, and a fellowship in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, at UTMB Galveston in 1976. Dr. Steadman was commissioned in the US Air Force Medical Corp, as a Lt in 1972. And served as a Major at Keesler Air Force Base from 1976-78. After military service, Dr. Steadman moved to Jackson, MS, and worked at the University of MS Medical Center. In 1986, he returned to Texas, where he worked throughout the Bryan-College Station community, in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. He was a founding member of The Sandstone Center, serving as Director of Child & Adolescent Services. And subsequently served, as Medical Director for Child & Adolescent Services, at Desert Hills in College Station, TX. He was instrumental in founding Scotty’s House, Youth & Family Center. In 1997, Dr. Steadman moved to Tyler, TX, and led the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry services at ETMC, until his retirement in 2013. Dr. Steadman is survived by his daughters, Shannon Steadman-Bryant, (Dan Bryant) of Magnolia, TX. And Jennifer Steadman-Murphy, (Zach Murphy) of Arlington, VA., a sister, a brother, grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Dr. Steadman’s gentle spirit and kind heart, were a foundation and inspiration, for his family, and the communities, in which he lived, and practiced the profession, he loved so much.
