Born on July 17, 1943, in Brownsville, Texas, Linda was the first of four children born to Doris Dean Hoving and Richard Lee Hoving. She spent her formative years in Amarillo, where she graduated from Tascosa High School in 1961. Her warm spirit and infectious laughter won her many lifelong friends, beginning in high school and continuing through every chapter of her life.
Linda briefly attended Texas Christian University and joined a sorority, where even in one semester, she formed friendships that endured for decades. In 1964, she married and moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where she raised her two children, Michael and Christi. Whether in an apartment or a new suburban home, Linda had a rare gift for cultivating meaningful friendships wherever life took her.
In 1973, she and her family moved back to Texas, settling in Lewisville. There, as a devoted stay-at-home mom, she continued to nurture not only her children but a tight-knit community of friends. In 1981, the family moved again—this time to Longview to start a business. Linda was deeply involved in that endeavor, as well as in AMBUCS Too, where her natural leadership and compassion shone through.
In 1993, facing new beginnings, Linda made the bold decision to pursue a nursing degree at the age of 50. Her home became a hub for study groups of younger classmates, whom she guided and inspired. After earning her degree, she began working at Good Shepherd Hospital in the Cardiac IMC unit. Aside from being a mother, she was most proud of becoming a nurse—and she was an excellent one, bringing skill, empathy, and joy to both patients and coworkers.
Linda remarried in 2007 and returned to Amarillo. Just months later, she received the joyful news that she would become a grandmother. Her granddaughter Emma Claire quickly became the center of her world. Early on, Emma affectionately called her “Minnie”—a name that stuck and came to represent the boundless love Linda had for her family.
In 2012, she relocated to Rockwall to be closer to Christi and Emma. There, she found a spiritual home at Lakepointe Church and joined a Life Group whose members became among her most cherished friends. Linda adored Rockwall, her home there, and the community that embraced her.
In 2022, as Parkinson’s Disease began to take its toll, Linda moved back to Longview to be near family. She remained surrounded by love until the end.
Linda is survived by her son, Michael Williams; daughter, Christi Williams; granddaughter, Emma Claire Newman; sister and best friend, Dana May; and brothers, Derk Hoving and wife Jean, and Rex Hoving ad wife Claire, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Those who knew Linda knew she never met a stranger. Her joyful spirit, welcoming smile, and heartfelt hugs left lasting impressions on everyone she met. Her love for gardening, her passion for travel, and her unwavering devotion to friends and family were central to the beautiful life she lived.
Her bond with her sister Dana was one of a kind—deeper than friendship, stronger than words. They shared endless conversations, never a harsh word, and a love that was truly rare.
Linda “Minnie” Hoving will be remembered not only for her laughter, her warmth, and her strength, but for the countless lives she touched along the way. She was, and always will be, a devoted daughter, loving mother, adoring grandmother, and a true friend for life.
A memorial service will be at Lakepointe Church in Rockwall on May 16th at 11 am. Funeral service will be at Lakeview Memorial Gardens on May 17th at noon.
