Marceil ("Marcie") Waxler of Longview, went to be with her heavenly Father in the early morning of August 9, 2023 at the age of 96. Funeral Services will be held in the chapel of Lakeview Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens on Saturday, August 19th, 2023 at 10:00am.
Marcie was born to Lee Roy & Ollie Mae Moore on October 12, 1926, in Athens, Texas. She attended school in Athens, Kilgore and Overton, before moving to Liberty City in her sophomore year of high school to attend Sabine High School. She graduated from Sabine High School in 1945.
She loved school and was involved in many activities that included serving as the Editor of the school newspaper, playing on the school volleyball team and was on the tennis courts playing tennis every chance she had. Marcie was also part of the band where she played the French Horn and served as the Drum Major for the band. She would later take her Drum Major experience to Kilgore College where she was selected to serve as the Drum Major to lead the Ranger Marching Band.
Shortly after graduating from Kilgore College, Marcie found employment as the company secretary at Waxler Machine Shop in Kilgore. Reuben Waxler, the owner of the machine shop, welcomed the safe return of his son Melvin Dale Waxler back home from the Navy at the end of WW2 in 1945.
Melvin's machinist experience landed him a job as an instructor at LeTourneau University and as the head machinist at Waxler Machine Shop. The attraction that Marcie and Melvin had for each other was evident very early on, so by June of 1946, the two were married and began making plans to start their family.
One year later, in June of 1947, Marcie and Melvin welcomed daughter Sharon, son Gary was born in January of 1951, and daughter Cynthia was born in February of 1956.
Marcie and Melvin built their family home on the outskirts of both Kilgore and Longview, and watched all 3 of their children attend and graduate from Kilgore High School.
With her 3 children now beginning to start families of their own, Marcie found her entrepreneurial spirit and opened a Ceramic Shop in her late 50's, a real estate firm at the age of 70, and stepped in as a proprietor of a Lakeside Restaurant, Hotel and Fishing Marina at the age of 80.
Into her late 80's and even early 90's, Marcie kept herself busy by volunteering her time at a local library, assisting the elderly and handicapped, and even finding time to work at women's boutique in Mineola.
Marcie also loved to dance-especially square dancing, polka, and a number of different waltzes. She smoothly and confidently spun, twirled, swung and skipped her way across the dance halls and floors of East Texas for almost 50 years. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed crocheting, knitting and tending to her 4 pound Chihuahua that she simply called "Sweetie."
Marcie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was a lifelong member of the Baptist faith and will be greatly missed by those left behind, but they rest in comfort and peace knowing that this period of separation is only temporary.
Marcie was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Waxler, parents Lee Roy and Ollie Mae Moore, daughters Cynthia Ann Waxler-Kennedy and Judith Kay Waxler, sister Dorothy Watts, brother Roy Gene Moore, and great-great grandson, Ryder Trull.
She is survived by daughter Sharon Trull and her husband Dan Trull of Lafayette, LA,
