Celebrating the Life of Margaret Burd Halpin

With deep love and sadness, we announce that Margaret Halpin went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on December 8, 2025. Margaret was a beloved mother, sister, sister-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose life touched so many.

Born in Gary, Texas, Margaret was one of seven children of Tommy and Irene Phillips. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Longview and an active part of her community. For 28 years, she owned Margaret’s Dress Shop, a cherished boutique where customers became friends. She could never go anywhere without being greeted warmly and asked about the latest arrivals—sometimes even by husbands joking that they were going broke, but their wives looked amazing!

After retiring, Margaret gave more than 25 years volunteering at Good Shepherd Hospital as a floral delivery lady. She loved her volunteer friends and the joy of brightening someone’s day.

Margaret’s greatest gift was hospitality. She welcomed everyone with the biggest hugs. Her greatest joy came from spending time with family and fostering a loving environment. Her home was always open, and holiday celebrations were her specialty—filled with laughter, bountiful meals, and love. She made every celebration unforgettable.

She will be lovingly missed by her daughter Sheila of Fort Worth, who will forever carry her love and legacy; Sheila’s husband, Steve Leach; son-in-law Chris Godfrey; grandchildren Garrison Leach and wife Devon of Aledo, Texas; Amber and husband Phillip Wright of Hallsville, Texas; and Ronnie Max Godfrey and wife Sarah of Longview, Texas; great-grandchildren Charlotte and Violet Leach, Ryleigh, and Addison Godfrey; a brother, Albert Phillips and his wife Kathy of Houston; sister-in-law Barbara Phillips of Troop, Texas, Ruby Phillips of Houston, and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Halpin; her beloved son, Philip Burd; and her daughter, Lisa Burd Godfrey, with whom she is now joyfully reunited.

Sheila and her family would love to recognize and will be forever thankful and grateful for her wonderful caregivers: Ileane Hurd, Vi Perry, Bonnie Alizadeh, and Mya Carroway. Their devotion and love for Margaret were so evident in everything they did for her. Even when she had few words left, she never forgot “thank you, darlin”…

She will forever be remembered as a beautiful soul whose love and devotion shaped the lives of all those around her.
