Margie was born August 18, 1933 as Marjorie Ann Smith, oldest child of Reginald B. Smith and his wife Marjorie. She lived most of her life in Longview. She graduated from Longview High School in 1950.
The most important event in Margie’s life was her marriage to Charlie Kemp, also from Longview. They had two boys, Kelly and David. Margie and Charlie did everything together: travel and dancing, and playing tennis, golf and bridge.
They were members of the First Methodist Church of Longview and the ‘Henry Foster’ Sunday school class.
Margie worked for years on the design of a house that they finally built in 1973, and in which they lived until Charlie’s death in early 2021. At that time, her sons moved her to an assisted living center in Plano, to be very near to both of them for almost 4 years.
She did not ever suffer any significant disease or disability. She passed on January 7 simply from old age, and was ready to go meet Jesus and see Charlie.
A small service will be held on Thursday, January 7 at 1 pm at Lakeview Funeral Home with Rev. Jay Jackson officiating.
Think of it: 91 years of great health; 67 years in a great marriage; 38 years in a house that she built; happy sons and grandkids; and faith in Jesus. Who could ask for more?
