Nellie was born November 7, 1930, in Keyes, Oklahoma, to Dean and Lorena Knox. She was one of eight children. They grew up in Hugoton Kansas, where she completed her high school years.
Nellie traveled a lot with her first husband Mike Bell, a Pipeline Superintendent, and they settled in Tyrone, Oklahoma to raise their family. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge and worked as a cook in the Tyrone school cafeteria for several years.
Nellie later met her second husband Charles Creson and lived in Liberal Kansas where she worked as a sales associate at Audrey’s dress shop. They moved to Henderson, Texas, and it was there she took on a position for several years at Chalk Hill Water Department. Nellie was very active as a hospital volunteer at the Good Shepherd hospital. She was also involved with her local church, treating them all to home-baked goods on a regular basis. She dearly loved children, and was a nursery caregiver. She was known as Granny to all of her family and to the nursery kids.
Nellie’s greatest strength was loving and caring for others, always in a cheerful manner. She was gentle and genuine, and always put her own needs last. Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing, needlework, baking, and working outside. She was an avid walker, always with her dog at her side.
Nellie is survived by her daughter Mikayla Bell and her son Gary Bell (Donyne), both of Cave Junction, Oregon, two step daughters Paula Austin, and Pam McQueary, both of Texas, three brothers, Virgil Knox of Wichita, Kansas, Floyd Knox of Hugoton, Kansas, Tony Knox of Flint Texas, and one sister Maxine Sexton of Dodge City, Kansas. She was predeceased by her son John Bell, husband Charles Creson, Sister Odessa Leavitt, and brothers Delbert Knox and Herbert Knox. Nellie had numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her beloved toy poodle Lily who brought her years of joy.
Nellie’s smile and comforting words will be missed dearly. She had a very warm spirit. Her family extends a special thank you to all the caring staff at The Suites assisted-living and Signature hospice.
