Norma Jane Sands Young

Norma Jane Sands Young, 85, of Kilgore, passed away October 20, 2015 at a nursing home in Kilgore. She was born August 2, 1930 to James Lee Sands and Willie Olive Reed Sands. She married Claude Bryan Young, SR on July 18, 1949 in Tyler. He preceded her in death on December 16, 2007. After graduating from high school, and while raising her family, she managed to go to SFA, earning her Masters in Education, continued her education later in life, earning her Masters in Social Work from the University of Texas in Tyler. After receiving her degrees, she worked as a social worker for the state of Texas for over 30 years. She enjoyed sewing, collecting dolls, and cooking, even at one point supplying pies for a local restaurant.

She is survived by her son: Claude Bryan Young, Jr. and his wife Donna McGee of Kilgore; daughter: Martha Jane Young, E.d.D. of Front Royal, VA; grandchildren: John Robert Saner Anderson and his wife Beth of Blanchard, LA, Michelle Dyan Moore of Chantilly, VA, Claude Bryan Young, III and Regina of Kilgore, Carrie Amanda Hammer of Kilgore; great grandchildren: Cameren Young, Ondriah Young, Austin Hammer, Bailey Hammer, and Kaicee Hammer all of Kilgore, Sarah Jayne Anderson of Blanchard, LA, Rachael Michelle Moore of Chantilly, VA, Kayleigh Elizabeth Anderson of Blanchard, LA, Joshua Robert Anderson Moore of Chantilly, VA and Seth Matthew Moore of Chantilly, VA; great-great grandson: Cainen Young of Kilgore; and her brother: Jimmie Lee Sands, Jr. of McGregor, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her son, Michael.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Chapel of Lakeview Funeral Home. A time of visitation with the family will start at 1:00 until service time at the funeral home, located at 5000 West Harrison Road, Longview, Texas.
