With shattered hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of David Alonzo Martinez, who left this world far too soon at the age of 43 after a brave and painful battle with cancer. His departure has changed our family forever. The world feels quieter without his laughter, and our days feel heavier without his presence.
David was a carefree, childlike soul, someone who carried innocence and joy even through the hardest moments of his life. He faced struggles from a young age, yet he never let them harden him. Instead, he became a man defined by kindness, generosity, and a heart that always had room for others. He gave freely of his time, his love, and his humor often more than he had to give.
Known lovingly as “El Chompiras,” David found purpose and pride in his work as a barber. Those who sat in his chair didn’t just receive a haircut; they shared a moment with him. The people who allowed him to cut their hair also allowed him into their lives, creating a bond that went far beyond the clippers. Thank you to everyone who welcomed him, trusted him, and let him share his gift; your openness meant the world to him.
Beyond his work, David carried a deep passion for art, especially graffiti. It was his way of expressing the colors and emotions he carried inside. Through bold lines and vibrant shades, he left pieces of himself on walls and canvases little reflections of his spirit, his imagination, and the beauty he saw in the world. Art was his escape, his voice, and one of the purest expressions of his soul.
David was our big brother, our protector, and our reminder that even in a difficult world, there is room for softness. He leaves behind his father, his five sisters, three nephews, and three nieces, each of whom carries a piece of his heart. The void he leaves is immeasurable, but so is the love he gave us.
We will forever hold his memory close and continue to live life in his honor embracing joy, giving freely, and loving deeply, just as he did. His spirit will walk beside us always.
May our beloved brother David rest in peace. May his light continue to guide us. May his memory live on in every heart he touched.
