June 19th, 1926 – July 4th, 2023
Birthplace: Portland, OR
Death: Los Angeles, CA
Dr. Gail Reingold passed away peacefully at his home in Brentwood on July 4th, 2023. He was 97.
Gail was born in Portland, OR and moved to Los Angeles as a young boy. Growing up around Hollywood stars, he spent his time trying to stay out of trouble while bouncing around jobs in the film industry. He relished his time at the beach, where he spent his youth (and the rest of his years) bodysurfing with friends and family.
Gail married his first wife, Dawn, in 1947. Shortly thereafter they relocated to Chicago, IL, where Gail began his career in real estate. The first of his three daughters arrived shortly thereafter, and within a few years they returned to LA, this time for good.
Back in LA, Gail rekindled his love with the ocean, becoming a boat owner and an avid fisherman. On any given weekend, you could find him with his fishing pals on a day trip to Catalina or in search of a good albacore or tuna.
Always wanting to help other people in times of need, Gail pursued a degree in psychology and opened his own practice, where he counseled dozens of patients. He helped them navigate life’s challenges and many credited him with saving their lives. Several of his patients became decades-long dear friends.
Gail married his beloved wife Barbara in 1988. Together, they explored the world. Gail was a passionate traveler and car collector, becoming a prominent member of the Rolls Royce and Bentley collector community. Nearly every Sunday morning, you could find Gail cruising to Malibu in one of his classics for coffee and breakfast, often with one of his grandchildren. One of his proudest accomplishments was being featured in the 1999 Rose Parade in his 1926 Rolls Royce Ghost. Gail was known for his cars, but also for his stories – some harrowing, others hilarious – of his tours around the world and lifetime in LA.
Throughout his life and well into his 90s, Gail was an impressive tennis player, and you could regularly find him hitting the ball at Riviera, his home away from home.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his three daughters, Linda, Diane, and Susan; his grandchildren Joshua, Emily, Robbie, Natalie, Spencer, and Evan; his great-grandchildren Teddy, Walter, Jack, and Isabel; his brother, Bob; and his stepdaughter, Tiffany.
