Just became aware of the passing of a great teacher, I was double checking the spelling of Traucht so I could answer the password inquiry "Who was your Favorite Teacher or Professor?" and Herr Traucht was the first and only name that came to mind.  Although I never saw him after I graduated Venice High I thought of him often and the mind expanding questions he posed to us...

Although it has only been one  year since Bill was escorted by the angels to heaven, it seems like an eternity since he has been with us.  I thank God each day for the blessing of having Bill in my life as God sure knew I needed him.  Bill was always so supportive and knew exactly how to respond with compassion, empathy, and grounding words of wisdom.  Bill was a dear friend, and so much like a father to myself and many others.  I was honored to gather with Bill's "Family of Choice" on the first anniversary of his passing.  Bill, you are forever in my heart!  I love you so, so much!  The void without our daily phone calls and emails, as well as  my visits to "Mentone Manor" is so enormous.  Love you Bill!

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Herr Traucht. He was by far the best teacher that I had while attending Venice High School in the 1970s. I learned much more than the German language from him. He challenged his American students to think beyond the U.S. He taught us a lot from the German and European perspective and challenged us to think. Auf wiedersehen und ruhe in Frieden, Herr Traucht.

Bill completely understood that there is no such thing as death. It is a TRANSITION, a journey back to non-physical to your Inner Source.

I was truly shocked to hear of Ivan's passing. My partner and I had just meet him in person a month or so ago, and were looking forward to spending time with he and his friend Lars from Norway. The short time we knew him, I was impressed with his zest for life and spending time with friends. May he rest in peace.

I was deeply saddened to read of the passing of Herr Traucht.  He was a truly inspirational and enthusiastic educator whose given job description was to teach German but what he taught us, his students, was so much more than that.  He introduced us to the world of ideas, of culture, and of diversity.  As the years have passed since my high school days, I have come to treasure my time in German class with Herr Traucht all the more.

Herr Traucht was the single most important and influential teacher I ever had (VHS 1971-1974).  He was my role model in the sense that he instilled in me the desire to learn as much as I could about as many things as I could.  I always marveled that while he didn't know everything, he knew a little ABOUT everything.  That continues to be my model to this day.  He was both a gifted teacher and a rare human being.

I was a student of Herr Traucht in 1972 & 1973. Although I only had contact with him during my Venice Hi years he had a wonderful impact on my life and I never forgot about him.
He'll be missed.

I knew him as "Willi" and his German class at Venice High School turned out to be one of the most important and life-changing classes I ever attended. In my first year of college as a "German major" with no deferment and facing the draft, I was told by an Army recruiter, "son, we are sending you to Germany!" Willi was a guest at my wedding just before I shipped out to Heidelberg. A couple years later Willi went to India, where he became quite sick, and went to Germany to recuperate. He visited my wife and I at Heidelberg where we shared many happy hours over Lager Bier. Over the years that followed I enjoyed corresponding with him in German, and, being ever the teacher, he reciprocated--sometimes returning my letter with corrections!

Bill and I shared several things in common. For years we went to organ recitals at first Congregational church where he would sit enthralled listening to Bach and the other composers he loved. Though he was anti-religion, he tolerated that the magnificent instrument that happened to be in a church. We shared a passion for cars and he would gleefully tell stories of the Volkswagen he bought new and toured all over Europe. He still owned it at his death. He also loved his beautiful jaguar convertible. We also shared a bond as leather man and freely talked about our passion for men of leather and all that it entailed. We also had John lohr in common. His love and devotion to bill was amazing to watch and truly inspirational. I'll miss you Bill. You were an amazing MAN!!  Dan Weiss.

I met Bill at Palms  Jr. High in 1952 and we have been dear friends and shared may moments since.  He was a loyal and beautiful friend. Bernd has know him since her visited us in Germany in 1954.  He will live in our hearts.

We were shocked to read in this morning's TIMES of Bill's passing.  I met Bill at Palm Junior High in 1952.  He was my oldest and dearest friend and we went through much together. He was like another brother to me. Bernd met him in 1974, and we both cannot find words to express our sadness at this time.  He will always remain in our hearts.

Bill 'Ivan' was my only family here in Los Angeles. I am forever grateful to have met and spent 15 years of love and friendship with Bill. I love you immensely Bill.  You will always be with me.
