Born on September 18, 1941 to Evelyn Leighton, Lee was raised by his grandparents, Fred Leighton and Vera Isbell-Leighton, in Culver City and began his lifelong job service in the grocery business. He worked over 40 years in this industry, starting at Market Basket (which later became Boys Market) and finishing his time at Ralphs. Lee suffered a stroke in 1997 but returned to work for a year in 1998, eventually retiring in 1999. This same year, he was blessed with his only grandchild and devoted his time to supporting her dreams every day.
He adored being a grandfather along with actively engaging with his friends and family. Outside of work and family, he was a member of the Culver City Historical Society and The Culver City Elks Club BPOE #1917 for 47 years. January of 2018 was the beginning of Lee’s decline with his health, up to his peaceful passing this year on March 9. His life is remembered and honored by his daughter, Lisa Leighton-Powell, granddaughter, Kristen Powell, and son-in-law, Michael Powell.
Now that restrictions have been lifted, we are given a chance to step back and commemorate our time and memories with the late Lee Leighton. Outside services will be held Friday, September 18, 2020 at Pierce Brothers Westwood Memorial Park and Cemetery at 10:30am.
