Edith Elizabeth Harmon

July 3, 1935 – March 1, 2026

Edith Elizabeth Harmon, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, at her home in Morro Bay, California. She was 90 years old.

Edith was born on July 3, 1935, in Winslow, Arizona. She grew up knowing the value of hard work, moving throughout Arizona and California as her father, Sanford Edgar (Ed) Hockett, worked as a ranch hand. The family eventually settled in Glennville, California, and Edith graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1953. She was raised alongside her sisters Nancy, Irene, and Arlene, and the bonds she formed in those early years stayed with her throughout her life.

Edith shared two children — James (Dean) Baker and Victoria (Vickie) Jeanne Black — with her first husband, Jim Baker. She later found lasting love with Eugene (Gene) Everette Harmon and married on December 10, 1960 and together they welcomed daughter DeEdra Elizabeth Taylor. They raised their three children together in Bakersfield. And in 1993, they fulfilled a shared dream — building their home in Morro Bay.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Harmon; her parents, Clemmie Ella and Sanford Edgar (Ed) Hockett; her sister, Nancy Southwood; and her grandson, Mitchell (Mitch) Dillon Eugene Taylor.

She is survived by her sisters Irene Rogers and Arlene Krause; her children Dean Baker and daughter in law Jeri Baker, Vickie Baker and son in law Terry Black, and DeEdra Taylor; her grandchildren Valerie and Brian Black, Tammy and Jeff Baker, and Dani Taylor; her great-grandchildren Aubrey and Hadley Small, and Julian Baker; as well as a cherished circle of nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

Edith loved deeply and lived fully. She was an avid reader who treasured a good book, a gifted pianist whose music filled every room she graced, and a loyal friend to all who knew her. Above all, she loved her family — fiercely, quietly, and without condition.

She was strong. She was wise. And she will be deeply missed.
