Guido Biagio Palermo of Los Osos, CA was embraced by heaven and passed away at St. John’s Hospital on December 8, 2023 at the age of 88 in Camarillo, CA surrounded by family. Guido was born on August 24, 1935 in the municipality of San Fili, Italy (Calabria) and was preceded in death by his parents, Luigi and Maria (Salerno) and his brother Arturo.
As a child Guido helped grow fruits and vegetables on plots of family land while also learning to hunt, skills that he loved and continued throughout his life.

At the young age of 17 he began his years of world travel in search of work to support his family back home, traveling first to Germany and then sailing to Brazil and finally the United States. Guido learned to speak four languages, in addition to his native Italian, while he worked as a skilled tradesman in Italy, southern Germany, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), and the United States. During his travels he worked as a metal fabricator, welder, and mason in addition to at one point managing a bar and selling newspapers in Rio de Janeiro. Over time, he was able to help his immediate family migrate to the United States and become citizens. They joined him in Chicago where he was working as a group leader for Zenith.
Guido met his loving wife of 56 years, Angelina (Morrone), after being in Chicago during the 1960s. They were married on October 14, 1967 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
Eventually moving to San Jose, CA where he worked as a welder in Saratoga, CA and ultimately as a Building Service Engineer at San Jose State University until he retired and moved to Los Osos, CA.
Guido had a passion for good food and drink often offering multiple course meals with food and drink from the garden to anyone who came to visit. From the tomato sauce on the freshly made pasta, the cheese from fresh goat milk, the aged prosciutto, capocollo and salami appetizers to the red wine he made and loved so much, everything was homemade together with his family and shared freely, time and again, with his friends.
His other passion was for the churches he supported. First in his home town of Bucita, Italy where he fabricated a metal cross at the Church of Santa Lucia where it still stands today. In San Jose, every Sunday morning was spend attending mass at St. Fances Cabrini Parish and in Los Osos, Guido and his wife helped bolster the church’s St. Joseph festival, cooking fresh Italian meals and serving homemade wine for hundreds of attendees.
