She was born in Starbuck, Minnesota on September 1930 to Christoffer and Gladys Westby. She lived there until she came to San Luis Obispo to visit her sister and brother-in-law Clarice and Henry Cattaneo. It was wintertime in Minnesota, 1950, and San Luis Obispo seemed like a great place to live when you can go to the beach in February, so she stayed.
Marlys met and married Edward Collins October 25, 1952 and was blessed with three children; Michael, Carolee, and Scott.
Marlys worked at a dress shop, Camp San Luis Headquarters, and the county auditor’s office where she kept the County Ledger by hand then later by computer. Then it was time to be at home with her children.
From 1975 to 1995 Marlys was employed at Sierra Vista Hospital in the computer department and retired in 1994.
Marlys is preceded in death by her husband Edward, sister Clarice Cattaneo, and brother-in-law Henry Cattaneo.
