

Morgan Burkett Morgan Burkett, of Avila Beach, passed away on May 8, 2015, with his wife and sons holding his hands. Morgan left us on his own terms with grace, dignity and extreme bravery after a short battle with cancer. Morgan was born in Buffalo, New York, and lived in Fort Morgan, Colorado; Lakewood, Calif.; Calgary, Alberta; Anchorage, Alaska; Bakersfield, Calif.; Austin, Texas and Avila Beach. Morgan graduated from San Luis Obispo High School in 1966 and from UC Berkeley in 1971. He was an entrepreneur and hotelier for 45 years. After reconnecting at a high school reunion, Morgan and Christine did a lot of traveling and his ashes will be dispersed at his favorite vacation spot, Avila Beach. Morgan is survived by his wife, Christine; sons, Travis (Genevieve) and Barret (Lexey); granddaughter, Graceyn; daughter, Amber; son, Michael (Rita); brother, Jack (Lori); brother, Alan (Amy); sister, Emily (John) and numerous nieces and nephews. Morgan will be remembered for his honesty, selflessness and generosity. A Memorial Service to celebrate Morgan's life will be held on his birthday May 17, 2015, at the Avila Beach Community Center at 191 San Miguel Street in Avila Beach 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
