Hampton was born in Crestwood, KY on December 1, 1928 and lived in the Kentuckiana area his entire life. After starting his racing career at the Sportsdrome, Andy Hampton won the 1961, ‘62 & ’63 Figure Eight Division Titles and the 1965 & ’65 New & Late Model Championships at the Fairgrounds Motor Speedway in Louisville, KY. He went on to win the International 500 in 1961, co-driving with Jack Purcell and again in ’67 co-driving with Bill Kimmel, Sr. He won 20 ARCA Racing Series events including the prestigious Daytona 300 in 1968 & ’72; and the Daytona 500, finishing 10th in 1968, and finishing 9th in 1969 after starting 50th. In 2010 Hampton was inducted into the Kentucky Motorsports Hall of Fame. Over 55 years, Hampton along with his four sons also owned and operated several Kentuckiana car dealerships.
