A life-long Louisvillian, Barbara was born in 1934, to Lillias and Prosser Ashbury. She graduated from Atherton High School in 1952 and Western Kentucky University in 1956. Barbara was a retired teacher having taught for thirty-six years, most of those were at Kentucky Country Day School. She was also an active member at Melbourne Heights Baptist Church for nearly fifty years. She was an avid University of Kentucky fan, loved to watch the Lady Cards play basketball, and loved baseball, especially the Louisville Bats. After the death of her husband, Barbara loved travelling around the world with her grandchildren. She was a very “Dignified” and wise Mima who loved to tell stories, make messes, and did a lovely cackle of the Wicked Witch of the West.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, to whom she was married to for forty-eight years, her brother P. Lee Ashbury, and sister Betty Jones.
She is survived by her two daughters, Lynda (Jeff) Fadler, of Franklin, TN and Betty Sue Crenshaw, of Louisville, KY, and five grandchildren: Katey Fadler, Amy Fadler, Matthew Fadler, Courtney (Michael) Dant, and Sam (Katie) Fadler. Along with many nieces and nephews, and granddogs and grandcats.
A very special thanks to her care givers over the last four and a half years, Regina, Kim, Connie, Dorothy, and Amy.
Visitation will occur on Saturday, December 30, 2023 from 11-2PM. A celebration of Barbara’s life will follow visitation, beginning at 2PM. All services will take place at Arch L. Heady and Son’s, 7410 Westport Rd. Louisville, KY 40222.
Barbara will be laid to rest privately within Resthaven Memorial Park, 4400 Bardstown Rd. Louisville, KY 40218.
