She began her career in radio and was one of the first female station managers in the U.S. when she became manager of the former WSTM-FM in Louisville. She was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Rector Porta; son, Michael Porta; and brother, Alan Hammond.
Survivors include her children, Mark H. Porta(Pam) and Lisa Rector Porta; grandchildren, Leslie, Jessica, and Michael Porta; brother, Lloyd Hammond; and sister-in-law, Margaret Hammond.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 11am at St. Matthews Episcopal Church 330 N Hubbards Lane Louisville, KY.
Memorial contributions can be made to any Hosparus chapter of choice or the Alzheimer's Association.
