Betty Anita West, our beautiful, silly Betty Boop, was born to Clara (Byrne) and Lester West on March 9th, 1939 in Ticonderoga NY. She grew up in Tahawus NY with her brothers Lester, James and Albert. Betty was such a wonderful “tough old bird” who prided herself on being a strong, resilient mountain woman! But we knew Betty as so much more! She had a caring and generous soul, always willing to open her home and heart to others.
After graduating Nursing School at SUNY Plattsburgh College, Betty met and married Francis Henry Boos Jr. Betty and Frank raised a large family including Kathleen, Brian, Margie, Andrew and Emily, along with our “adopted brother” Vu Nguyen. As with any family, there were challenges and health concerns, but Betty’s nursing skills and fiercely protective, giving nature kept her family humming along.
Every summer we would all travel to Betty’s beloved Upstate NY Adirondack mountains to the Byrnes Road family farm. There we’d meet up with all the cousins Brian, Richard, Jeanne, Barb, Claire, Jeff and Sandy. As Chief Counselor of Camp Wacky, Betty along with her amazing sisters-in-law Patty, Connie and Peggy made the summers fun and educational. We learned to appreciate the love Betty had for the history and natural beauty of her home state.
Betty was not only loved by her large extended family, but she was also cherished by her coworkers and patients that received her professional care. Betty’s career as RN included the ER, tending young students as School Nurse, ministering to patients through Home Health Care and as Charge Nurse at Elderwood in North Creek.
This Mountain Girl also had an eye for the finer things in life. Betty was an amazing cook who could throw lavish parties for her wide circle of friends. She had an eye and flair for design and also looked forward to traveling, especially to her favorite destination of Ireland. Betty continued widening her circle of friends and admirers through Minerva Service Organization and Red Hat Society.
On Saturday January 18th, Betty passed on to Heaven. She was surrounded by her family at her bedside during administration of Last Rites. Now Betty can peacefully enjoy one of her favorite spots whenever her heart calls her to that cozy, private back porch in springtime, admiring her lovely daffodils and crocus popping up with songbirds chirping happy morning greetings.
Please feel free to come join us for a service in Betty’s honor on Saturday Jan. 25th with visitation from 12pm- 2:00pm and memorial service at 2pm at Arch L. Heady & Son Westport Village 7410 Westport Rd. Louisville, KY 40222. This summer we will be planning a fuller *Celebration Of Life* memorial party. We will provide details of this with all Betty’s loving family and friends and look forward to sharing many funny, silly, heartfelt stories created by this wonderful woman.
