

Betty Lou Jerde, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 84, on November 28, 2025, in Louisville, KY. Born on October 13, 1941, in Chico, CA, to the late Steven Bowen and Justine (Compton) Bowen. Betty was a nurturing presence throughout her life, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her loving husband of 45 years, Gaylord Jerde; her sons James and Michael Jerde; and her sister, Linda Edwards. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Ann Jerde; grandsons, Austin (Sabrina) Wilson and Zachariah Wilson; granddaughter, Nina Dietz; her sister, Rosemary (Roger) Siems; along with many adored nieces, nephews, and a host of cherished friends who became her extended family.
A woman of many talents, Betty was known for her caring nature and her willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need. As a dedicated LPN, she provided comfort and care to countless individuals. Her passion for helping others extended into her volunteer work as a C.A.S.A. (Court Appointed Special Advocate) in New Mexico, where she advocated for the rights and well-being of children within the court system.
Those who knew Betty will remember her for the vibrancy she brought into their lives. Her talent for baking, especially her beautifully crafted wedding cakes, became a treasured part of many family celebrations. Her sewing and quilting skills were unmatched, providing warmth and love in the form of clothing and blankets she gifted or donated.
Betty was a proud member of the Sons of Norway, celebrating Norwegian culture and forming lifelong friendships. Her involvement in community and tradition was a source of joy and showed her love for shared heritage.
Betty will be remembered as a loving, generous, and thoughtful soul, whose kindness touched many. She began her family, raised her three children, and spent the majority of her adult life in Vallejo, California. After her husband's retirement, Gaylord and Betty moved to New Mexico, where she continued to flourish.
Let us celebrate the life of Betty Lou Jerde, honoring the love she shared and the lives she enriched. Her memory will be carried in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
