Charlie graduated from Bishop David High School, Class of 1967. He attended University of Louisville to earn a business degree. Charlie worked for Kroger in various roles for 43+ years, meeting many lifelong friends along the way. Charlie was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.
He loved packing up a cooler and cruising that smooth weekday water on Lake Cumberland in their boat. Charlie loved spending summers traveling out West camping, hiking and mountain biking in the National Parks with his family. Charlie loved playing tennis with his kids and friends, including the Volvo Tennis League and weekly meetups at Campus Tennis Club. He always cheered on his Louisville Cardinals and enjoyed a great burger and slice of pie. He was a model husband, father and always willing to help those in need. “Smiley” was the moniker given to him by so many because of the wonderful smile he often wore.
Charlie is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Margaret “Peggy” Williams and one sister, , Susanne Allgood. He is survived by his children Amy Thompson (Adam), Joe Williams (Meredith) and grandchildren Chloe, Margaret, Charles, Catherine and John Thompson; sister Kathy (Tim) Powell.
A Celebration of Charlie’s life and visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, November 9th at Arch L. Heady and Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Rd. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 10th at St. Paul Catholic Church, 6901 Dixie Highway with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. There will be a Rosary prayer service at 10:30 am on Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church.
Donations can be made in Charlie’s name to St. Vincent de Paul society at St. Paul Catholic Church.
