As a young man, David served in the U S Army and completed his service with honor. He spent his career on the road as a delivery driver for Spalding Cleaners, and Krispy Kreme Donuts.
In high school David excelled in sports. He played basketball & baseball and was a member of the 1963 basketball team that won the state championship for Seneca High School. He continued with his love for sports by coaching & umpiring elementary school & little league. For many years David was a beloved coach and umpire at Germantown Baseball. Often, David was stopped by former Germantown players to pay their respects.
David is preceded in death by his son, Andrew, who passed in 2011, his parents, Robert L Hecht Sr. & Wilma Hecht, a brother, Robert L. Hecht Jr., and sisters, Vicky Cox and Nancy Hecht.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sharon K. Hecht, a son, David B. Hecht (Bennie), grandchildren, Jacob A. Hecht and Jack A. Hecht.
A celebration of David’s life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 12pm. Visitation starting at 10am on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd. Louisville, KY 40218.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
