Debra resided in LaGrange, Kentucky, with her devoted husband of forty-six years, Michael Hooper. She is lovingly survived by her husband and six children: Michelle Hooper; Rose Wade (Harley); James Wade (Beverly); Lisa Hooper; Dawn Edwards (Chris); and Jessie Booker (Brandon). She also leaves behind thirteen cherished grandchildren and a beloved collection of grand-dogs. She was preceded in death by her favorite child and soul-dog, Tiny, who passed away in July 2025.
To her children, she was not only a mother but a trusted friend. Her green thumb and love of nurturing plants reflected the way she cared for people—bringing life, beauty, and comfort to every soul she touched. Her humor was unforgettable; she could effortlessly lighten a room—or tense it up—with perfect timing. She was a nurturer, a fierce protector, a loyal friend, and a gifted storyteller whose stories will live on through her family.
Debra was always ready for an adventure and treasured the many trips and moments spent traveling with the children she adored. Her greatest pride and deepest joy were her children and grandchildren, and she celebrated each of them wholeheartedly.
She lived a life marked by quiet generosity, focused not on recognition but on impact. Her children once witnessed her remove her own coat during a snowstorm to place it around a woman in need. She faithfully donated blood to the American Red Cross and held a special place in her heart for the Jewish community. Debra gave freely and joyfully, never expecting anything in return. Her legacy will not be measured by what she possessed, but by the love she gave and the lives she uplifted. Countless people are better because she was here.
Debra’s family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at Norton Brownsboro Hospital for the exceptional care and kindness shown to her in her final days.
Visitation will be held from 11-3 pm on Tuesday February 17, 2026 with a funeral service to start at 3pm in the chapel of Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd. Louisville, KY 40218.Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.
In honor of her life and generous spirit, the family encourages donations to The Joshua Fund.
