

Born in Brookville, Indiana, he was the son of the late William Jones Walker and Eugenia Mulverhill Walker. He spent his formative years in Louisville, Kentucky, where he pursued his education at Flaget High School, Bellarmine University and the University of Louisville. His dedication to service was evident during his tenure in the United States Army and Reserves for six years.
Don met the love of his life, Lillian Nickell, and they were united in marriage in 1976. He began his professional career at E.I. Dupont in Louisville before transferring to LaPlace, Louisiana, where he and Lillian thrived together for 36 years, until they returned to Louisville in 2016 to be closer to family.
As a devoted lifelong Christian, Don was actively involved in the Catholic Church supporting numerous Christian and Children's charities. He held a deep affection for his family and friends, cherishing the many travel experiences throughout the years.
Don was a competitive tennis player, competing in the sport well into his 70s, where he celebrated victories over opponents much younger than himself. Fitness and exercise were integral parts of his daily routine.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lillian Nickell Walker, as well as five siblings: Charles T. Walker, Wanda Jean Walker, William J. Walker, Jr., Mary Lou Weixler, and Geraldine W. McLaughlin. He is survived by 15 nieces and nephews who adored and cared for him.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky, 40218. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 PM on Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church, 3705 Stone Lakes Drive, Louisville, Kentucky, 40299. Don will be inurned in Calvary Cemetery privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or Hosparus of Louisville.
