

Sonny was drafted into the Army at the young age of nineteen and bravely served his country during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he enjoyed the simple things in life, evident by the countless hours spent around the kitchen table, shooting the breeze over a cup of hot coffee. He loved paying visits to his family, especially his mom. He was a music enthusiast, with The Beatles being his favorite. Sonny was a loved and admired son, brother, father, and grandfather. He was the firstborn of four children.
Sonny is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Greenup, Sr. & Elizabeth "Betty" Greenup; his wife, Jennifer Greenup; sister, Elizabeth "Ann" Faulkner; and his brother, William "Brian" Greenup.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Lisa Mercer (Lewis); grandchildren, Brian Andrew, Ringo Leon, and Lillian Faith; sister, Gail Blevins; and many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Above all, Sonny wanted the best for his daughter and grandchildren. He will be truly missed by all who adored, admired, and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4623 Preston Hwy, Louisville, KY 40213, with a service to honor the life of Sonny to follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Sonny will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery.
