

Edwin Olliges, Sr. of Louisville, Kentucky died on April 8 at the age of 91. Born January 26, 1935 in Louisville Kentucky to John Jansen and Anna Beck Olliges. The youngest of four siblings, he was preceded in death by John J. Olliges Jr. (Carol), and Betty Olliges Brown (Robert). He is survived by his sister Rose Marie Hettinger (Aloysius). He married Patricia Ann Herm on October 9, 1954 and they were married 62 years before her death in 2016. They had five children, Mary Pat Olliges, Eddie Olliges (deceased 2015), (Judy), Larry Olliges (Kathy), Michael Olliges (Jackie) and Christy Kalbhin (Keith). He is survived by 10 grandchildren and their spouses, 6 great grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews.
He was a parishioner of Holy Family Church where he was a member of the choir and a cantor. At 40 years of age, he returned to college receiving an Associate in Applied Science in 1981 and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1985 from the University of Louisville. He was employed by Laminating Services from 1959 to 1987, working his way from General Foreman to Director of Purchasing. After leaving the company, he started his own business, Kentucky Cardinal Interiors. He did home remodeling jobs both in the Louisville area and in Florida. After retiring, he continued passing along his vast knowledge of tools and “how to” to his son in law.
If you couldn’t find him at work, then he was in the garden, growing potatoes, tomatoes, strawberries, sugar snap peas, peppers and asparagus. He even planted seeds in early March to prepare for a garden this spring.
Edwin and Pat began vacationing with their children in 1966 in a borrowed trailer. Traveling to such places as the new Walt Disney World in Florida, Texas, and Salter Path NC. He and his wife, purchased a motor home in 1993 and toured the United States visiting all 50 states. (They visited Hawaii for their 25th Wedding anniversary.) He was most proud of having driven the Al-Can highway in 1997, approximately 1382 miles from Dawson Creek, B.C. to Delta Junction, Alaska.
A visitation will be held from 4pm - 7pm on Monday, April 13, 2026 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd. Louisville, KY 40218.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10am on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 3938 Poplar Level Rd. Louisville, KY 40213. Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.
