

He was a Vietnam veteran serving as a Blue Beret in the U.S. Air Force. During Vietnam, he earned a purple heart after stepping on three land mines. He earned his Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree at Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1972. Edwin served the community for 33 years as a public servant as a civilian employee for the Louisville Metro Police. He was a lifelong Mason and currently a member of the Robinson Plumb lodge.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Dorothy Westphal and a brother, Herbert Westphal.
Edwin is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Charleen Westphal, their children, Jennifer Westphal, Elaine Thornhill (Tom), Edwin (Lee) Westphal Jr., (Cari), grandchildren, Branden Westphal (Rachel), Ty Westphal, Chase Westphal, Hannah Henderson (Weston), Brooke Endres (Erich) and Baylee Thornhill (Levi). He is also survived by two great- grandsons and two more on the way.
A visitation will be held from 4-8 on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd., Louisville, KY 40218. A funeral service will be held at 10 am in the funeral home chapel on Monday, March 30, 2026. Entombment will take place at Resthaven Memorial Park.
