Very sorry to see Uncle Fred has passed. I am Robert Kapp, Sr's daughter, Carolyn Fay Kapp Bischoff.  The last time I saw him was at my dad's funeral over 20 years ago. I have lived mostly out of the state of Kentucky for the past 38 years. I can say, Uncle Fred, was gentle and loving like I remember his father. He and my dad looked so much alike. So thank you for sharing the pictures on this site. I will be praying for the family during the next few days. I am sure Uncle Fred and my dad will be playing a game of Pinochle real soon.

Thank goodness I did get a call from my sister who heard. I am so very sorry I have not been around to come to express my love for a great uncle.

Freddie was the very best of men.  He believed you had to work for what you want in life.  He served his country in the U S Army in WWII, his life was in jeopardy in that time and I am grateful he was able to survive to come home.  He so loved my mother and made her life happy.  He was a wonderful father to his children.  All during his life, besides working, he took care of those who needed it.  He cut grass for others for years, gave rides to those who needed it.  I saw him do this for years and years.  He was a comfort to those he loved.  He loved animals, and when we were growing up there was always a dog we loved.  When our last dog died, his heart was broke, and he couldn't go through that heartbreak again, and the children were grown by then, and never got another pet.  One of his favorite pastimes was playing cards.  Usually pinochle or Rook.  When dealing I heard him say, "if you're crooked, show it!" .. His last business venture was Twin Cedars Steak House, located at 8812 Bardstown Road.  With his dear wife, they had a success with winning notice by the community with winning The Silver Fork for the years they were open.  (one is in picture just behind Freddie). They had many employees that were loyal and we treated like family.  His cookouts were legendary. He traveled during his life, but was content to live in Louisville, KY.  He and his wife both enjoyed being Kentucky Colonels.  He told me it was honorary, but they did enjoy it regardless.  He also enjoyed horse racing.  He had 2 pictures of him in the Winners Circle at Churchill Downs with him being listed as owner.  He attended Jai A'lai games, and has pictures of him with the players.  There is a picture of him with Rocky Gracieano that was taken at Criders Restaurant on Broadway in Louisville in the 1950's.  I think he was bartending there at that time.  He also butchered his meat, he told me stories about working at the Haymarket in his younger days, where he got his grocer and butcher training.  We had a grocery store for a few years, before he decided to go to the restaurant business.  I was so proud when they opened up Rainbow Downs, before the menu's were printed, he asked me to type and run off copies of his menu with the price's they could use until the printed menu's were finished.  Rainbow Downs was located close to G. E. Appliance Park, and also had a liquor store attached.  He ran it until he found and opened up Twin Cedars Steak House.  It was a fine dining restaurant, his wife had years of fine dining experience, Mr. Grisanti asked Mrs. Kapp to train the employees at his new restaurant, Casa Grisanti, which went on to be a success.  So in Twin Cedars, they were truly partners at home and at work.  My favorite memories are when he used to talk about old times growing up, or in the Army.  He was friends with Victor Mature the actor who was from Louisville, and mentioned his family as well.  He was a wonderful son to his mother and father, took care of them until they passed, and cared for his sister Mary Ellen, until she passed away.  I treasure knowing both his mother, father, and sister.  I was a silly kid, but knew even that young when they were talking to LISTEN.  They gave me a picture of the past, and what people went through to live a good life, it was harder then more than it is now.  The one thing that stuck the most was, "Be a man/woman of your word".  Stand by what you say.  I have always tried to do that.  I am so proud to have known him and to call him my father.  He was so good to me, and I will miss him and treasure his memory.  Rest in peace dad, you and mom are together now.  I take comfort of the love you bestowed in me.
