Dear Fred,

I didn't know you before you passed away more than 2 years ago, so I've never had the pleasure of meeting you in person. I've become an Amstaff fancier only recently and I have heard a lot about you and your work for this truly wonderful breed. It's a lifetime achievement and your name is now legendary, immortalized as an exceptional being. You will always be in the hearts of all American Staffordshire Terrier fanciers.

Time has raced by. In a few days it will be a year ! since you left us.  I miss

I was randomly surfing the net when I decided to check out what was new with the AmStaf club.  That's where I saw that there were plans for a memorial trophy honoring Fred for the Bred by Exhibitor class.  I was shocked to find out that Fred had died.  So many memories came tumbling back...Natl. Specialties in KY; weight pulling, with Fred cheering my Frankie and Tom's Redbolt; Ch. Mistina, the first female to fly to Iowa to breed with my Beau; the fabulous Ch. Sindelar's Heidi Ho; but most of all, Fred's wonderful warm personality.  Good-bye dear friend from long ago. I am so sorry for your loss, please accept my most heartfelt condolences on the passing of Fred.
When I think of Fred, I remember some 8 years ago when a very nervous person, called Mr. Fred Sindelar of the Legendary Sindelar Kennels to inquire about the possibility of getting a pup. I was so nervous because I thought the ‘godfather ‘ of amstaffs would just say no and hang up on me as other breeders had done. After all, who am I, just some young guy all the way up in Vancouver, Canada. I thought for sure he would say “the nerve of this young man”. Oh boy was I wrong.
On that day I met and discovered a man who would become, my mentor and truly one of my best friends. From that first phone call, I was welcomed into Fred's life like I was family. That is how he made me feel. Not only did he teach me about his amstaffs he taught me about life and how to carry myself. Be humble, be caring, be helpful, be honest, be respectful, be a good father and husband, and be loving. This is the beauty of Fred, he shared his knowledge and wisdom, not to mention his wonderful stories. Always there for me, to answers my questions, give me advice when needed, encourage me and tell me the truth. This was the Fred Sindelar I knew, I admired, and loved. 
I know this to be true, because all who took the time to know him, came away feeling the same as I. He truly was one of the most beautiful people this world has known.
The amstaff community truly has lost one of the greats, but his family and friends have lost so much more.
I take comfort in that my dear friend is no longer suffering and in pain. I take comfort that he is with his beloved Orion and Jim. I know his entire amstaff family is happy to have their "DADDY" home with them.
Take care my friend until we meet again. Until then I know you are watching over us. I will do my best to carry on. Do not worry my dear friend, I will keep my promise.
As another one of our friends has said in the past “ Sindelar and only Sindelar will do !!! “

As you know I have admired and openly spoke well of Fred in all teh 13 years I have been involved with the dogs.
 Whether you have 1 pet dog or 100 show dogs or no dogs at all,Fred was the best kind of human to know.

I was so fortunate and blessed to have known such a wonderful man and friend as Fred. The Nationals will no longer be the same without him. I will forever miss his "Hey girl" in that slow southern drawl accompanied with a big bear hug as if I were a long last family member...talking basketball(Kentucky)...dogs...fishing...And you knew when you talked to Fred, what he said was  what he believed. Honesty is a great virtue especially in dogs. I know every one shares grief with his passing...expect maybe all the fish in Kentucky...Rest in peace Fred.

Evelyn, I feel blessed to have known you and Fred for the last 20 years and feel honored and so very lucky to have been able to ask Fred for advice and know, without a shadow of a doubt, he would tell me the truth, whether I liked it or not! Evelyn I am so glad Shawn and I have been able to talk with you and Fred over the last several months. I met Fred in the early 1980's while I was living in Illinois. He was a sweet, considerate, gentleman who was very kind to me and always encouraged me whenever I ran into him at the dog shows. He was always willing to share his time and knowledge and his wonderful sense of humor. I will never forget you Fred, you were simply one of a kind, an original. I am a better person for having met you.

Thank you for everything you have done for our breed. Come visit everyone at Nationals. We may not be able to see you but we'll know you're there.

I consider myself a very lucky person for having met who I consider the greatest personality in the breed, who at the same time was an incredible human being. So sorry to hear about Fred passing. I met him in 1973, and was always happy to see him at our Nationals (yes, I am an Am Staf friend). I know he hasn't been well for quite some time, although I had not seen him for the last few years, since I was unable myself to attend the annual show. I was just inquiring last week about his health from another breeder in your area.

I know you will truly miss him - but also know that you have great faith and that you know that he is waiting for you in a better place.

My condolences and best wishes to the whole family. He will be greatly missed by the dog friends too.

Fred Sindelar was highly respected in the Am Staff community. He had the ability to make a lasting impression with his mere presence. And when he spoke, his words were those of great advice and genuine encouragement.  
The legacy he leaves behind is that of a man of great character, an example to us all.  
We have lost an icon and he will be surely missed.
