George Edwin "Pat" Maier Jr., 89, passed away September 1, 2017. George was born July 23, 1928 and was a member of the 1945 state championship Male High School track team. He was a proud member of the United States Marines, serving on the USS Midway aircraft carrier in World War II. He retired from Dean Foods and was a longtime member and basketball coach of St. Denis Parish. He was a fan of horse racing and was a proud owner of thoroughbred horses. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Dolores; his parents; his infant son, Dale; and his grandson, Michael Glenn Maier. George is survived by his children, Patti, Gary(Becky), Valerie Atzinger(Pete), Glenn, Pat, and Michael(Dana); 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and his 4 siblings. A service honoring the life of George will be held at 10am Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Evergreen Funeral Home with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be 11am-8pm Monday.
