

He was born on January 15, 1950, in Louisville, the son of George and Doris (Ries) Paine.
George, who was known by John, loved his family with all his heart. He loved his grandchildren and spending time with them, joking and laughing. He was a bit of a prankster. John loved people and loved children. He owned a cotton candy and snow cone truck and enjoyed the people he sold them to and working the festivals. He also worked as a carpet installer for many years.
John enjoyed traveling and going on cruises with his family. He enjoyed gambling in the casino and of course, the Kentucky Derby. John had also named his much-loved pet, Derby. He was a longtime member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Debra Paine; three children, David Paine (Natalie), Brad Paine (Jennifer) and Tina Earls (Joshua); nine grandchildren, Megan Bowman, Tiffany Paine, Jordan Collins, Tabitha Earls, Kaiden Earls, Jacob Heminokeky, Geoffrey Heminokeky, Gabriel Heminokeky and Caleb Heminokeky; eight great-grandchildren, Mika and Miley Bowman, Chloe and Jacklyn Collins, Drew, Ozzy, Fynn and Giles Heminokeky; four sisters, Margie, Patty, Jeannie, Barbara and one brother, Joey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Shawn Paine.
Visitation will be held from 3-8 PM on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Ave. Louisville, KY 40206. Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 639 S. Shelby Street, Louisville, KY 40202. Entombment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
