She was born in Hazard, Kentucky to the late William Earl Hazel (a coal miner) and Ollie Ann Carson Hazel.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond C. Wheatley, two children, Peggy Sue and Bobby Wayne; and dear friend Buddy Napier.
Gladys is survived by her children Wanda Montgomery, Sharon Barley (David), Teresa Wheatley (Buddy) and Raymond C. Wheatley Jr. (Tonya); a sister, Shirley Monahan (Mike); a brother, Kenneth Earl Hazel; 14 grandchildren and12 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be conducted Monday, March 29, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Chapel, 4400 Bardstown Road with committal service in the Kentucky Heritage Pavilion at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 8:00 on Sunday March 28, 2010 and from 10:00 a.m. till service time on Monday, March 29, 2010 at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Wayside Christian Mission.
