Helen Ann Smith

Devoted wife and mother Helen Ann (Hoskinson) Smith of Lanesville, Indiana died on May 30, 2025 at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, Indiana. Helen’s beloved mother and father were Elizabeth Aleen (Downs) Hoskinson and Theodore W. Hoskinson of Louisville, Kentucky. Helen is survived by her husband, Francis M. "Frank" Smith of Lanesville, Indiana; daughter, Jan Smith Vogelgesang, son-in-law Jeffrey Vogelgesang, and grandson, Louis Vogelgesang of Afton, Virginia; brother Maurice Hoskinson of Jeffersonville, Indiana; nieces Sharon (Hoskinson) Smith of Jeffersonville; Carol (Hoskinson) Wathen of Vine Grove, Kentucky; Maurine (Hoskinson) Mervis of Sarasota, Florida; Toni (Hoskinson) McMahan of Jeffersonville; and nephew John Hoskinson of Louisville, Kentucky; as well as nieces Candace (Smith) Embry of Shepherdsville, Kentucky and Jacqueline (Smith) Mitchell of Louisville. Helen is also survived by stepdaughters Catherine (Smith) Plowman of Vine Grove, Kentucky and Teresa (Smith) Kapp of New Albany, Indiana and stepson William Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada. Helen worked for many years as an elementary school teacher in the Jefferson County School System in Louisville, primarily at Wade Shacklette Elementary School. She was a faithful Christian and left behind a well-worn blue Bible. The family wishes to thank the staff at Baptist Health Floyd for their kindness and dedication in making Helen’s final days peaceful.

A visitation for Helen will be held Thursday, June 5, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218. A funeral service will occur in the chapel of Arch L. Heady at Resthaven on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at 2:00 PM with an interment at Resthaven Memorial Park, 4400 Bardstown Rd, Louisville, Kentucky 40218.
